WHO WE ARE
Bir Music Festival is not just a festival — this is a story that began in a difficult time, in the quiet mountains of Bir. It was founded during the COVID-19 lockdown, when tourism had stopped, daily wages had disappeared, and many local families — especially women — were struggling to meet even their basic needs.
Before this, she was running hostels in Bir, Rishikesh, and Jibhi, working closely with local Himachali women by creating small income opportunities through food and hospitality. But when the world paused, she saw how deeply dependent the region was on tourism, and how quickly survival became uncertain.
In the middle of this, while I myself was pregnant, I chose to act — not with a business plan, but with intent. What started as a small initiative to bring people back to Bir and support the local community slowly grew into a 48-hour, non-stop residential festival built on purpose.
Bir Music Festival was never designed to be a commercial concert; it is a community-led gathering where music is original, experiences are real, and people come together not just to attend, but to belong.
Over 13 seasons, more than 500 emerging artists have performed their own music live, alongside 150+ local businesses and stalls, with nearly 70% of the festival's revenue flowing back into the local economy — creating employment, supporting women, and helping the region move from survival toward stability.
Today, the festival stands for something deeper than entertainment. It stands for culture, sustainability, and human connection.
As it enters its 14th season on 22–23 May 2026, the vision remains simple: to build something honest, to support the people of Bir, and to see this mountain town grow — not just as a destination, but as a place where life can truly flourish.
WHY BMF
Started in the year 2020, this festival was aimed at creating more work and income opportunities in the village that was struggling during COVID. Bir, is the largest paragliding site in Asia and the second largest in the world. The main source of income of the village is the adventure and tourism.
However, during the pandemic it all halted and so did the income of hundreds of people who settled here. One major setback was to the hoteliers most of who were from other parts of the country but were living here for a peaceful life and making a living from tourism.
9 months of lockdown made lives miserable and therefore, a music and art festival came into existence to get Bir a big recall and bring tourism back to the village.

Bir Music Festival just completed its 12 seasons and 4 successful years. And with this has begun the prep of our showdown seasons 13 and 14 as they mark major milestones in our voyage.
The mega aim of Bir Music Festival is the curation of BIR MUSIC STUDIO.
This Studio shall promise the recording, curation and production of originals of the artists who perform at the festival. And this is where we will live our dream of true promotion of original music without any copyrights over them.
